Registration: next year is coming!

Registration time is here again! I love registration time.  I find it a lot of fun to pick out classes and try to make them fit together and to rework my four year plan again and again.  I just had my advising session for next semester with my wonderful advisor and it just gets me excited for the next semester.  It is also exciting because not only will I be a JUNIOR next fall but I will also be able to cut down the hours I am taking significantly.  It is so exciting to think of the many classes that I will be taking along with writing my thesis in the fall.  It also gets me thinking about my lil sis that I will be getting soon and I am so excited about spending time with her! I get my ONYX in the fall and the new laptop! We also just signed up for housing, which is something I do not enjoy nearly as much as registration.  It is a long, tedious process that is kind of stressful but totally worth it in the end when we walked out with our new on-campus apartment number! I am so excited for the 2011-2012 school year! I can’t get ahead of myself yet, though.  I still have plenty of sophomore year to live out before junior year rolls around.   We still have Tea for Two, Class Day, Stunt, the Murder Mystery in the library, several Meredith and a Movies, and a lot more cook out runs before the year is over, oh and classes and exams, as well. :)   It has been such a great year and we are definitely going out of sophomore year with a bang.  I cannot wait to see what the class of 2013 thinks up next year especially with our lil’s class of 2015 on campus!

How I ended up at an all Women’s College

I was your typical high school student who thought, “Meredith College, isn’t that all girls? Why would anyone want to do that?!” In fact, Meredith was not even really on my radar until my senior year college fair.  I knew it was a college, I even knew a few girls who had gone there but I just knew it wasn’t for me.  Well, towards the beginning of senior year we took a trip over to Elon for the college fair.  My best friend decided to stop by the Meredith table to pick up some information and so I went with her.  She got her paperwork and I began to talk with the recruiter about the education program at Meredith. It sounded really great and so I picked up some information as well and put my name down on their list.  Now, I was still sceptical about an all women’s college but they sounded like they had an excellent education program and they were not too far from home.  I went ahead and applied and then I took my tour in October and I absolutely fell in love.  I talked to current student’s who said not to worry about being around women all the time because not only was state right down the road, you would have male professors, staff, and even occasionally students that you would come into contact with daily.  I deposited for Meredith in late December and was so excited about this woman’s college that didn’t even register with me a year before.  So how did it all work out? Well obviously, I am still at Meredith and I am loving it! I have almost finished my second year now and I know I couldn’t have made a better choice in a college.  The fact that it is all woman doesn’t bother me at all and it rarely has.  You hardly notice in class that you are in a room full of woman and it is very true that you see guys a lot.  I have plenty of male friends at state and have almost as many male professors as I have had female professors.  If you are considering Meredith, or even not considering Meredith, and the all woman thing bothers you, take it from me, you should take a chance on this college because it has been more than worth it!

Spring Break Fun!

Spring break was last week and it could not have come at a better time! After a week full of midterms, papers, and stress; it was a welcome break. A few of my friends and I traveled to Atlantic Beach and spent the first five days relaxing on the beach.  It was an amazing time! The weather was beautiful and thefood was amazing.  We cooked dinner every night and spent at least a little bit of each day out on the beach.

I read a bunch of books and played so many games! Even doing alittle work for classes did not seem that bad while staring out at the ocean!  On Monday, we even traveled out to Beaufort for a little shopping, ice cream, and dinner. The best thing about the trip was being with some great friends and building bonds and relationships that will last a long time, not tomention all of the jokes that we got out of being together for five full days!  We left for Raleigh on Wednesday afternoonand then we each split off to our home towns.  It was nice to be home for a few days before heading back to reality.

I was able to celebrate my best friend’s eighteenth birthday, spend some time with a few high school friends, and see both my boyfriend’s and my family.  Sunday came way too quickly and it was time to head back to Raleigh.  Classes started up today which was a bit of a shock after a week off but the stress from midterm week is gone and professors are passing back midterms and starting new lessons.  The second half of the semester has a pretty high standard to live up to and I cannot wait to see if it does!

Midterm Week- The Storm before the Calm.

It is that time of year again, midterm time.  I am taking five classes, a lab, and I just started a p.e. today this semester and that has left me with four midterms in less than a week of each other! Four tests on top of everything else that happens on a regular basis is a little stressful and keeps me very busy! In my education class, we had to use different cooping mechanisms to “overcome” something to demonstrate the different intelligences a student has.  Well, I picked my midterms! It was fun to visualize and use movement and sound to think about “defeating” the midterms. Being an English major, I really enjoyed writing the creative story to demonstrate.  It was really a nice way to relieve a little stress and worry.  With three midterms out of the way, I just have one left to finish.  Midterms might be stressful and maybe a little hard but I love the feeling of accomplishment after finishing one.  My last midterm is a take home test that my suite mate is working on as well and since we are allowed to discuss ideas for the test, it shouldn’t be that difficult. And on the bright side, after midterms are over, spring break is finally here!
